I was on KT and found this one post for Coldseed. The band is the side project of Bjorn “Speed” Strid, the main singer of Soilwork, one of my *most* favorite bands. I gave this album a few spins and this is my initial comments.
If you expect to hear some Soilwork influence, you will be surprised! Amazingly enough, this album is nothing like Soilwork’s other albums. Songs have slower tempos (track 1, 2, and 3 for example) and they have more punchy beats. The style and the sound-quality are very different from Soilwork. Coldseed is more heavy-metal than metalcore. The familiar sounds of Soilwork are gone in Coldseed’s "coldseed" - Makes This Tragedy and replaced with a more 80s, heavier metal sound quality. Just listen to the distortion guitar: the riffs are differnt and even the distortion sound. Everything in this album gives a fresh perspective of the great vocal performance of Bjorn Strid and his ability to perfrom various metal styles. Compared this to Stabbing the Drama (this is my first Soilwork album and I love every song of it), Makes This Tragedy will probably bring more to the table for heavy metal fans as it is a fresh change from metal core to heavy metal. Track 8, "Coldseed" - Reflection, is another great surprise as it is a great slow song featuring the real Bjorn’s wornderful clearvoice.
In brief, Coldseed - Makes This Tragedy is solid and totally enjoyable. If you are fans of Soilwork, you cannot afford to miss this to experience the great vocal of Strid.
